Dan Carlisle: Sculptor Guided by Nature and Heritage
Dan Carlisle is a self-taught sculptor whose artistic journey began during an unexpected visit to an art gallery in Rosemary Beach. Coming from a family of artists—his father, renowned botanical and landscape artist Ben Carlisle, and his uncle, celebrated interior designer Richard Tubb—Dan draws inspiration from their legacy while forging his own creative path.
Dan is also proud to support his son, Evan, as he finds his own artistic voice in music, theater, and the performing arts, continuing the family tradition of creativity.
With over 20 years of experience in horticulture and curating landscapes, Dan’s work is deeply inspired by the natural world. An avid outdoorsman, he finds inspiration in time spent canoeing, fly fishing in the Appalachians, and bow hunting. One of his favorite adventures was a nine-day canoe trip along the Cahaba River, from Birmingham to the Alabama River.
Artist Statement
For me, sculpting is a form of active meditation. It grounds me and gives me a renewed sense of purpose, offering a place to process deep emotions. The blend of figurative and abstract forms brings the whole into focus, creating movement and interest while reminding us that there’s always another perspective to explore. I hope my work invites curiosity to find the beauty from every perspective.
